Work/Works – Day 6

Mark 16:20

Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and The Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it.

The Thought

How amazing it must have been for those first disciples to have God working with them.

Note though, that the first step was that the disciples preached. These mostly un-educated rough and ready disciples became preachers, teachers and miracle workers!

Each one had had their lives changed when they had seen the power of God at work through Jesus. (That’s why they followed Him!)

When they understood the power of the resurrection, just 2 days after the horrific death they had witnessed; when they heard His final demand, to wait for the power from on high, they could not do anything else. They obeyed, even though they had no idea what they were waiting for!

I have met preachers and evangelists who say that they cannot stop themselves from talking about Jesus wherever they go. It just happens! These people would never tell you they work for the church, they would only ever say that they work for God, The Lord of Heaven and earth!

The key phrase in this verse today is The Lord worked with them. He is the same Lord that we follow today, and He is more than ready to work with us too.

Action

Pray that you will be more conscious of God’s presence in your life throughout the day today. Talk to Him as you go through your normal activities, and at the end of the day take stock of anything different that you have noticed. Be encouraged.

Pray for others you know who have a real calling to share Jesus with everyone they meet.

If you are amongst those who are timid about speaking to strangers, then pray for certain people that you know, and ask Jesus to tell you what to pray.
