The Spiritual Blessings

Introduction

In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians he tries to convince the new converts of all that is available to them as believers. This short letter is a call to be reconciled fully to God and also together with other Christians as the world wide family of God.

Paul’s prayers are used widely amongst christian communities today to remind us of all Jesus did for us. They are also used to encourage us to move into more living reality of His presence in our daily lives.

It is a challenging, and at the same time, exciting book to study.

Note as you read that Paul’s call to believers is to SIT with Jesus in Heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).

Later the message is saying that we can WALK with Him, by doing what He taught us to do (Ephesians 5:1-3).

At the end we are asked to STAND with Him as we learn about the warfare necessary to win this world for The Lord (Ephesians 6:10-18).

If it possible take time today to read some or all of the letter to the Ephesians and see if you can spot some of the spiritual blessings hidden there.

Ephesians 1:3

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Through Christ, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that heaven has to offer.

The Thought

Paul makes his convictions clear at the beginning of this letter. Many blessings are available to us as Christians. Note the verb tense here as you read the verse. It is past tense, God has ALREADY blessed us with EVERY spiritual blessing. It’s a done deal. Our problem is how to retrieve them and learn to live in them on the earth in our daily lives. I am reminded of Jacob who wrestled with God and said “I will not let you go until you bless me”.

Is that your cry today, to plead with The Lord to bless you abundantly? I think for many of us His answer would be “But I’ve already blessed you, you must learn to take hold of those blessings and live by them.”

Let us remember that what we think of as a blessing, may not be the same as God’s ideas. He is not talking about an easy life. That maybe a part of His plan for you, but His blessings come from doing His work, obeying Jesus’s commands, and sharing our faith with others. Remember that Paul who wrote this letter was imprisoned and beaten for his faith, but he would tell you he was blessed!

Action

Pray as you begin this study that you will really benefit in your daily life by understanding more of what is your right as a believer, and how God is longing for you to receive His blessings, as well as what you must do to increase the blessings.
