This post is the first in a series of studies about “Revelation 1-3”.
Feel free to comment below with your own thoughts about each verse and how you will be acting on each thought. Also, if you haven’t yet signed up to receive the notifications of new studies, you can do that today. (The form is at the bottom of the page).
Revelation 1-3 – Day 1
If we read something silently, we take it in, just using our one sense – sight. But if we speak what we are reading, then we use a second sense, – hearing. The fact is that we remember much more what we have read if we use two senses instead of one.
Revelation 1:3
Blessed is the one who reads aloud this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it…
The Thought
As I was reading the first few chapters of Revelation, preparing to do this study, this verse for today leapt off the page, so before we look any further, let us consider what it means to read aloud, and why we are recommended to do that.
Most of us are used to reading our Bibles silently and meditating on what we read, but here John recommends reading aloud. Why?
If we read something silently, we take it in, just using our one sense – sight. But if we speak what we are reading, then we use a second sense, – hearing. It’s obvious isn’t it? The fact is that we remember much more what we have read if we use two senses instead of one.
There is also another important reason for reading aloud,- the spiritual world hears what we say! There are angels and demons all around, and at the word of God the demons flee, and the angels rejoice. Jesus and His disciples cast out demons by words, and many believers today are doing the same.
These demonic beings are not sitting around and listening because they enjoy doing that. They are under orders from Satan to hassle believers and bring sickness, complications and difficulties into the lives of those who follow Christ. Reading aloud the Word of God irritates them, and scares them off. Let’s send a few demons packing this month!
Action
Read aloud Revelation 1 and take time to imagine the pictures John saw.
Note that Jesus told John to write what he saw and send it to the 7 churches. I can imagine that John thought he would send each church the same letter, but no! Each one received a different message.
Think about the first vision in this chapter. Do you think it was preparation for what is to follow?
Pray that as you read these messages this month, you will hear personally what God is saying to you and your church.
