Work/Works – Day 5

Revelation 9:20

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk.

The Thought

Idolatry is a very deep deceptive sin, and the Bible has much to say about it. In this verse, the suggestion is that the ones who are most guilty are those who make the physical idols! They make them in order to give them honour, to worship them, and to encourage others to do the same. In fact it is the deceptive spirits behind the statues that are receiving the worship.

Psalms 9:16 tells us that the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.

We could apply these verses to those who produce drugs in order to make others addicted. Cigarette manufacturers also! Many would include those who produce alcoholic drinks. It can a fine line between different opinions, but the important thing is the attitude of the producers. Are they trying to make money? Are they trying to harm others? Are there some who are purposely trying to reduce world population?

Thankfully God looks on the heart of man and He is the final judge (Psalms 96:13 & 98:9)!

We must look at our own attitudes as well as our work and ask God to show us if there is anything we do that He disapproves of.

Action

Ask yourself today if you are blessed by what you do and if you think God approves of all you do, not just in your job, but in your spare time too! If you don’t have a paid job, discuss with Jesus how you spend your time.

It is very difficult and unpleasant to be in a job that is not enjoyable, pray today for those in that position, asking God to rescue them and give them something they can enjoy, and something which suits their personality.
