Work/Works – Day 7

Haggai 2:4

Be strong … and work for I am with you says the Lord.

The Thought

This verse is particularly meaningful to me.

Many years ago, a couple of years after we moved to France in 1983, I was having French lessons with a lovely teacher who became a friend. One day she phoned to say that she had been to a parent/teacher’s meeting at the catering school where her son was studying to be a chef. To my surprise, she had recommended me for the part-time vacant job of English teacher there!! “But Danielle”, I exclaimed “I am not an English teacher!” Neither was I looking for work! “No!” she responded, “but you are an English cook!” (My training was catering and hotel management!)

I eventually went for the most amusing interview of my life. The Head of the hotel management department who interviewed me spoke very little English and my French was extremely limited! But I got the job!

On the morning I was to begin, I was praying about my reluctance to teach, and I opened my “Daily Light” Bible reading book and the verse on that day was todays’ verse!

I stayed in that job for 5 years, and continued as an English teacher until I retired more than 20 years later!

If we know that the Lord is with us, then what are we worried about. Whatever our situation, whatever work He asks us to do, He is there, just a breath away. Let’s make the most of His presence in our lives today.

Action

Could the Lord be asking you today to do something you don’t feel the inclination to do?

Ask Him to confirm His word to you.

Pray for those you know who have jobs they don’t enjoy. That the Lord will guide them.

Pray for any you know who are searching for work, that The Lord will lead them to the right place: the one He has prepared for them.
