Truth – Day 16

How many of us, when listening to the news, are sickened to hear of companies which have made fortunes, while there are people living in our neighbourhoods who do not have enough to eat? We will never know how much of those fortunes were gained because of a lying tongue!

Proverbs 21:6

A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapour (for those who seek death), and a deadly snare.

The Thought

How many of us, when listening to the world news today, are sickened to hear of companies which have made fortunes, while there are many people living in our neighbourhoods who do not have enough to eat? Maybe we will never know how much of those fortunes were gained because of a lying tongue! I suspect that many were, but not all.

Sorry, but I am sceptical about much of what is going on in the international business world at the moment. And I realise that I don’t pray enough about things outside my sphere of influence, which is very small.

But when I have watched fuel prices rise sharply over the winter months, then read or hear that certain companies have made a fortune, I get angry. Do you?

The truth is in this verse. And we must remain confident that God sees EVERYTHING, and that the unrighteous will be punished.

Most of us have no influence over world finance, and must leave that to the Lord, while praying for honesty and openness in local as well as international business dealings.

We must apply these verses we are reading to ourselves. Make sure that we are totally honest in all our dealings, and teaching our children to do the same.

Action

Pray today for honesty and clarity in whatever business dealings you, or your family may have.

If you are not involved in business in any way, then pray for local companies.

Pray for your local and national politicians to be scrupulously honest in all they do. Pray that they would understand the responsibility they have to those they represent as well as to God. Whether they believe in Him or not.
