Truth – Day 15

1 Timothy 3:14-15

Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

The Thought

Paul spent most of his life after his conversion travelling somewhere and constantly writing to a person or group somewhere else saying he was hoping to see them soon. He had an amazing passion to see people grow in their knowledge of Jesus, and to see the church growing all over the known world.

His description here of the church as the pillar and foundation of the truth makes me wonder if Paul would describe today’s church in that way. I can believe that most of the original churches were teaching the truth as they knew it. But very quickly the truth got twisted just a little. And then a little more. These groups developed habits that were not from The Lord and separations began.

Paul wrote to the church in Rome warning them of false teachings. I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them (Romans 16:17).

At the beginning of his first letter to the church in Corinth, Paul wrote the following. I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought (1 Corinthians 1:10).

Action

Read more of 1 Corinthians and pray today for the churches in your locality. Pray that there be unity amongst them. Also that they will teach only Biblical truths. Pray that they will not teach a “truth” that has developed from a wrong interpretation of God’s word, or from the dream or vision of a human.
