Truth – Day 13

Genesis 42:16

Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!

The Thought

This is the first time in my Bible that the word “truth” is mentioned. Joseph who had been abandoned by his brothers because they were jealous of him, had risen to the high position of governor of Egypt. He recognised his brothers as they arrived with many others to buy grain during a famine, but they of course, did not recognise him (v8).

We can imagine that they had not thought about the brother they had sold to be a slave (Genesis 37:26-29) for many years, but God has a way of bringing out the truth and reminding us of our past mistakes and bad decisions!

God had a plan for each one of the sons of Jacob, also called Israel (Genesis 32:28). And He has a plan for each of us and each of our children.

Through the years of separation, Joseph had not forgotten his brothers, especially the youngest one, Benjamin. This story ends with a great family reunion (Genesis 45-46).

Action

Read part of Joseph’s story today, and be blessed in the thought that God can bring out the truth in any situation. He has a way of making the truth be told no matter how much we try to hide it.

Think today about any lies you believed until the truth came out.

There are many untruths being told in the media today. Pray for full truth to be told.
