Children of God – Day 4

John 1:12

Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.

The Thought

What does it mean to be a child of God?

You can go to our Perfect Father with any problem. You can tell Him what is happening in your life. He will sympathise, encourage, rejoice, or gently correct. He will laugh and weep with you. And He will play games with you, walk with you, eat at your table, tell you secrets, give you surprises.

Ask yourself today if you know God as that sort of Father.

According to this verse Father God has given all of us, as believers, the RIGHT to become His children. That means their must be another step in intimacy with Him, that many of us have not yet taken or experienced.

If you live in a different country to the one of your birth, you will understand this more than others do. You may have the right to have a passport from the country you live in, depending of course on national rules and regulations. But each individual must apply for citizenship for themselves. Just living there changes nothing.

In the same way just going to church will never make you one of God’s children. Neither does the Bible say that praying before meals or before going to bed makes you one of His children. The first part of the verse today suggests that we are to receive Him! That is nothing like talking to some unseen being and hoping he can hear!

Action

Praise God that He is the Perfect Father, so much bigger and better in every respect than even the most loving earthly father. Praise Him that He wants to treat you as His favourite child today.

Pray for your intimate relationship with your Heavenly Father to improve and increase as you think about the verses we are looking at this month.
