7 Seals – Day 20
Revelation 6:12-13
I watched as the lamb opened the sixth seal. A powerful earthquake struck. The sun turned as black as sackcloth made of hair. The full moon turned as red as blood. The stars fell from the sky to the earth like figs dropping from a fig tree when it is shaken by a strong wind.
The Thought
The sixth seal. A powerful earthquake. The sun turned black. The full moon turned red as blood. The stars fell from the sky. There is a growing intensity in what John was trying to portray. Be assured that no matter how much we have experienced the Lord there is more.
It seems as though each seal shows something more terrible. There is a growing intensity in what John was trying to portray. Some of the old Testament prophets had the same intensity.
In Isaiah 50:2-3, we read,
“I dry up the sea with my command, and I turn rivers into deserts. Their fish stink because there is no water, and people die of thirst. I clothe the heavens in darkness and cover them with sackcloth.”
That Isaiah passage is part of a long rebuke for God’s people when He reminds them of much that He has already done for them, and then admonishes them for their unfaithfulness. In this particular chapter (Isaiah 50) God talks of the disobedience of the Israelites, comparing it with His obedient servant. Much of it draws a picture of Jesus, the “suffering servant”.
Isaiah is one who had a prophetic gift long before he really knew the Lord. In Isaiah 6 we read of how a vision of God changed his life.
For our family a similar change happened with our move from the north of England to France where we met people who talked about Jesus as if He sat down to dinner with them. He did!! That changed our lives. (Read the whole story here.) Today we say that we used to be christians (small “c”) and from that time on (1983) we have been Christians (capital “C”).
Action
Dare you ask yourself today what sort of Christian you are?
Read Isaiah 6:1-6 and imagine the changes in Isaiah’s thinking, in his way of life.
Once we have had a REAL experience of the Lord as He did, it changes our lives.
Even though John was in exile when he experienced his visions recorded for us in the last book of the Bible, we can imagine that such visions changed his way of thinking, his way of praying.
Pray today for Jesus to confirm His love for you. It may not be such a dramatic experience as Isaiah or John had, it might just be in something you read, or a feeling of security at a difficult moment.
Be assured that no matter how much we have experienced the Lord there is more, much more, that He has for each one of us. Praise him for that.
