The Last – Day 27

John 7:37

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink.

The Thought

Jesus had times when He needed to be alone, times when He just talked privately to His “team”, and times when He spoke to anyone who wanted to listen. Sometimes He made sure that those who didn’t want to listen heard His message too!! This was one of those times. We can imagine that His loud voice reached people who were not even paying attention, and certainly did not want to hear a sermon.

Jesus had a way of getting His message across to those who do not want to listen, and that is something we must all learn. Jesus gave us “the great commission”, to go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15).

The world is full of people who are too busy, or tired, or who went to church when they were young and found it uninteresting, boring and not relative to their life. None of them want to learn! What they see through our lives must draw those people to Jesus.

The very fact that we are believers must be a witness to others.

God’s kingdom on earth will grow as His followers today live as witnesses for Jesus, as He told those who were there just before He ascended into Heaven: … you will be my witnesses … to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8)! Jesus hasn’t changed His mind, and that word is still for us today.

Action

Those of us who find it difficult to speak about our beliefs, especially to those we do not know, can pray. Let’s do that today, let us pray for our neighbours, our family, our colleagues, and members of our governments, both local and and national.
