Work/Works – Day 24
God has work for each one of those who follow His Son. His plan is that the whole earth hears about Jesus, and His saving grace. Many of us are called to full time ministry. Many are not called to full time ministry, but to live as full time believers!
John 17:4
I have brought you glory on the earth by finishing the work You gave Me to do.
The Thought
This is Jesus talking to His Heavenly Father just before He began the ordeal of torture leading up to His death on the cross. Today I see this verse as a challenge for each of us. In our last moments on earth, will we be able to say “Heavenly Father, I have brought you glory on the earth by finishing the work You gave me to do”?
God has work for each one of those who follow His Son. His plan is that the whole earth hears about Jesus, and His saving grace. Many of us are called to full time ministry. Many are not called to full time ministry, but to live as full time believers! That means being ready at any moment to share what we believe. Or to pray for someone we meet who is sick, worried or sad. Once we are doing that, Holy Spirit will create circumstances for us to activate our faith.
How awful it would be to arrive in Heaven and hear the Lord say, “You only did half of what I asked you to!” But I do not believe for a single moment that will be the case. God is so loving and forgiving. Once we stand before Him, He will have already forgiven everything we did wrong, or omitted to do.
What an amazing forgiving God we serve, and how great to stand before Him at the end of our earthly lives and hear Him say Well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21&23).
Action
Challenge yourself today about what you do for Jesus.
Read John 17, the final prayer of Jesus given in detail there, and let it effect the way you pray today.
