Work/Works – Day 17

1 Peter 1:1-3

To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

The Thought

We have looked often at physical work so far in this study. Today we have a different perspective on work. The sanctifying work of the Spirit. That is going on in all of us as long as we are alive on the earth, and allow Holy Spirit to work in us.

The choice is ours as to how much we change once we are believers. Many people have believed that “once a Christian always a Christian”, but that is not strictly true. Judas Iscariot was a believer who flipped (Matthew 26:14)!

As we grow as believers, and understand more of the whole calling on our lives, so we can pray for and expect what this verse refers to as the sanctifying work of the Spirit. But that only happens as we allow Holy Spirit to do what He wants with us. He is the teacher who is ready to take us far on the road to spiritual maturity. The choice of how much we allow His work to bring change in our lives is up to us.

Going to a good church with correct Biblical teaching is important. Meeting regularly with others who are growing as we are is helpful, and usually a lot of fun. Listening to what Holy Spirit is saying is often easier with others.

Action

Ask yourself today if you have progressed in your faith over the last year or so. Thank Holy Spirit for His ongoing work in your life, and give Him permission to continue.

If you feel you are not growing, ask Holy Spirit to show you why. Keep listening for His answer. Give Him permission to change you.
