The Weather – Day 2

Genesis 8:1

But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with Him in the ark, and He sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.

The Thought

It is hard to imagine the whole earth covered with water, and even harder, (at least for me,) to imagine a wind going over the whole earth. The weathermen today talk of various winds coming from different directions bringing us changing weather patterns. They would probably tell us today that a single wind is not possible, for all sorts of reasons. But God said it in His word, and He was really the only witness of this whole event so we have to believe Him.

What do you suppose God was doing while He wasn’t thinking about Noah? Just having a party with the angels? Making plans for the earth He was about to redeem and re-populate?

But it wasn’t just Noah that God remembered. He thought of the whole situation which was not “natural” for those people and animals to be enclosed in small spaces, not doing very much, so He decided it was time for a change. Old Testament scholars tell us that Noah was on the boat for a week before the animals arrived, and it was over a year later when the waters subsided. That must have felt like a very long time for each one of those 8 survivors.

Action

Think today about changing weather patterns, and praise God for the variety of things He planned when He decided to create the earth as it is.

Praise Him for the Bible and those who study it in its original languages in order to help Bible students learn more.

Ask yourself today if you should do more in depth Bible study in order to understand the deeper meaning of things.

Does Noah’s story have anything to say to your Christian life today?
