The Weather – Day 3

Deuteronomy 4:19

And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars — all the heavenly array — do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

The Thought

This is not strictly a word about weather. But the sun and moon are directly connected with our regular weather patterns so I decided it was OK to use this verse which spoke to me loud and clear. I have also been feeling that I should do a study on idols. Maybe I will one day!

I find today’s verse interesting, because of the reason given for not worshiping the heavenly bodies! Because they are things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. What does that mean? That they are there for everybody’s benefit, not just for His people?

The Amplified Bible translates this as Do not be led astray and worship them and serve mere created bodies which the Lord your God has allotted to serve and benefit all the people under the whole heaven.

It seems to me that God is saying do not worship anything but Him. Everything else which He created, He did for His glory and for our benefit. We are to worship only Him and nothing and nobody else, the Bible makes that clear. As well as that, He is the only one worthy of all our praise!

Action

Give thanks to God for the sun and the moon that give us the light, and tell us about the seasons, but remember that the best and most important thing they tell us about our God is that He is an amazing creator, with scientific perceptions way beyond anything man can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20)! That is a verse worth studying!

Read Ephesians 3:20 today and remember throughout your day that God’s power is at work within us. That is you and me! Amazing!!
