The Weather – Day 1

Genesis 7:4

Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.

The Thought

The account of Noah and the ark is probably the best known weather story in the Bible, but there are many others, as we will see.

I was pondering and praying over a subject for our study in April. As I reflected on this month, I thought about the weather, because it is the month when we can really expect weather changes. At least in the places where I have lived. Winter is passed, and spring is giving way to summer. The gardens are full of colour and encouragement.

But let’s think today about Noah. He was one of the most obedient people in the Bible. He built something he had never seen or imagined (a huge boat), as protection against something else he had never imagined: rain!

Nobody had heard of or seen rain until God sent it to flood the earth. Until then the ground was watered by the Lord! Genesis 2:6 tells us a mist came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. God had thought of everything!

Action

Praise God today that He really did think of everything. Praise Him for the weather patterns in your area, ask Him to help you appreciate the weather you don’t really like!

Read the whole story of Noah in Genesis chapters 6-8 and imagine the rebellion of those who laughed at Noah’s handiwork.

Ask yourself where you would have been in that account…

Laughing at Noah’s crazy construction?

Longing to help, but not wanting to get the critical comments from your friends?

Wondering if you should think more about God?

Not convinced either way, but going with the crowd?
