Truth – Day 9

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”.

The Thought

Jesus was answering a question from the disciple Thomas, famous for being a doubter. He got that reputation because he refused to believe that Jesus was risen until he had seen the nail marks in His hands … (John 20:25). He just needed to be sure about everything. Many of us are like Thomas, wanting physical proof that Jesus is alive and in control of the world, because too often it doesn’t look like it.

In our verse for today, Thomas had expressed his frustration because Jesus said You know the way to the place where I am going. Thomas needed to be given simple answers so that everything was clear. He genuinely wanted to understand. Many of us are like Thomas in that too. We read our Bibles regularly, but how often do we not fully understand the meaning behind what is written?

The answer to our lack of understanding is Jesus! Spending time with Him will help bring clarification. There will always be things we don’t understand, truths we can’t get hold of this side of Heaven. But chatting to Jesus, the King of Heaven can help a lot. Either He will show us the truth from God’s Word, or He will whisper in our hearts as we spend time with Him.

Action

Read John 14 slowly today. It is full of verses many readers will have known since childhood. They are rich in meaning, and as we mature as believers they become richer.

Pray today for any doubts you have to be removed by the TRUTH of Jesus’ words.

Ask The Lord to make things clear, and don’t be afraid of asking Him for explanations. Thomas doing that has helped many people through the centuries.
