Truth – Day 8

1 Timothy 2:3-4

This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of The Truth.

The Thought

Jesus is The Truth that Paul is talking about here. In order to find what pleases Him, and what will work for us humans, we must read the preceding verses where we see that Paul is urging that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.

His words still encourage us to do the same today, as we pray for our friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to come to a knowledge of The Truth that can only be found in Jesus.

Many of us pray for those close to us regularly. But do we also do the following part? The verse continues for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Some of us pray for local leaders who affect our lives more directly than those in higher authority. But do we seriously pray for government leaders? There are political battles all around us, in every government. And believing Christians have a responsibility to lift those people up to The Lord regularly. If we don’t, who will?

In traditional churches, we can often find written prayers that are used during services. But many other groups ignore this advice from Paul to his young pastor friend. Let’s change that today and remember to pray more often for those who govern us and the rest of the world.

Action

Pray today for Jesus to reveal Himself to your local and national leaders, so that they will come to a knowledge of The Truth.

Pray too for local citizens to know the truth of what is happening in our areas, because much of that is not honouring to Jesus who described Himself as The Way, The Truth and The Life. We will look at that verse tomorrow.
