Truth – Day 5
1 John 1:5-6. Every day we have choices to make, and sometimes very subtly, those choices are between good and evil, truth and lies. Satan has never changed and still tries to persuade us that eating the fruit will not cause any problems. In fact we will be enlightened!
1 John 1:5-6
This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
The Thought
How sad it is that John had to speak out against liars in those very early days of Christianity. It seems that right from the beginning of life Satan has been suggesting that God has not spoken the truth. Did God really say …? (Genesis 3:1) and then trying to persuade his listeners of the opposite: You will certainly not die …!
But in the verse today, John is not teaching us just about words, but actions. He is calling us to live out the truth.
Every day we have choices to make, and sometimes very subtly, those choices are between good and evil, truth and lies. Satan has never changed and still tries to persuade us that “eating the fruit” will not cause any problems. In fact we will be enlightened!
Jesus accused those who were looking for an opportunity to kill Him of being Satan’s servants. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! (John 8:44-45).
Action
Read 1 John 1 & John 8 today, and then listen to people around you or on the TV or internet and ask yourself how much of what you hear is real truth. Do you believe what you hear?
Pray for the Lord to enlighten all His people to understand clearly what is truth and what is not.
