Truth – Day 4

Matthew 22:15-16 & Mark 12:14-15

Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap Him in His words. They sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are a man of integrity and that You teach the way of God in accordance with The Truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.”

The Thought

As I read these verses today, I can hear in my mind, the attitude of the Pharisees. They are trying to sweet-talk Jesus with flattery, but really they were trying to trap Him in His words! They were hoping to make Jesus say something they could use against Him. And they really had not understood Him at all! How sad that there are still people like that in our world today!

The result of that conversation was a lesson for us all. Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s (Matthew 22:21, & Mark 12:17).

Jesus was always open with the truth and gave very clever answers to those who tried to trick Him. His answers were always truthful and usually helpful to those who wanted to listen, but very irritating to those who didn’t. It is the same today, Jesus has, and is the solution to every problem we might ever encounter. Sadly, there are millions of people alive today who learned that truth when they were young, but have tried to ignore it, or twist it, and to follow the ways of the world.

Action

Pray today that you will know enough of the truth necessary to respond to any questions non-believers might ask you. Pray for pastors and teachers to speak the truth and not try to make excuses for the amazing things that God is doing and has done in His world.

Read more of either Matthew 22 or Mark 12.
