The Life of Joseph – Day 7

Genesis 39:6-8

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care…”

The Thought

The rejection of this act of prostitution by Potiphar’s wife was not appreciated, but she continued to try to seduce him. She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house (verse 12). Things then went from bad to worse, or so it seemed.

First this nameless lady complained to her servants and accused Jospeh falsely of trying to seduce her, then we read She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. Then she told him this story (verses 16-19).

Unfortunately for Joseph, he ended up in prison (verse 20), but that too was part of God’s plan, and in the following verses we read that the Lord blessed Joseph there and he found favour with the prison guards, so that the prison warden gave him a lot of authority over the other prisoners (verses 22-23).

Action

Think about your own life up to this point. Can you recognise God’s hand in some of your experiences, both good and bad. Praise God for all the learning seasons He has helped you through.

Thank Him for the places you have been to and the people you have met, even the difficult ones, remembering Matthew 5:11. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

Read Matthew 5 today and spend some time in prayer asking Jesus to bring people into your life that you can help on their way towards Him.
