The Life of Joseph – Day 6

Genesis 39:2-5

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favour in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

The Thought

Potiphar appreciated Joseph, promoting him quickly to a high position in his household, not knowing that that too was a part of God’s plan!

Reading these verses today reminds me that many years later, Daniel was a similar influence on Nebuchadnezzar who went on to declare to everyone that the spirit of the the holy gods is in him (Daniel 4:8)!

In the following verse in Joseph’s story we read So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate (Genesis 39:6).

How important it is today that our employers and the people we work with recognise that God is with us.

Action

Pray today that those around you in your daily life will recognise that God is with you.

Read some of Daniel’s story in the book bearing his name, and recognise that he had the same relationship with Father God as Joseph had, and as we can have with Jesus.

Pray for Jesus to reveal Himself and open the eyes of those of your family, friends and colleagues who don’t have that relationship.
