The Life of Joseph – Day 28

Genesis 45:24

Don’t quarrel on the way!

The Thought

These were the last words spoken by Joseph to his brothers as they left to return home in order to relate to their father and their wives and children all the amazing news that they had discovered! Joseph was not dead as they had thought, but very much alive and amazingly successful. They would all be hoping, and maybe praying that their father would still be alive and well enough to travel. It had been a while since they saw him.

But God was faithful and while Jacob must have worried quite a lot during the weeks his sons had been gone, he was still very much alive when these eleven brothers arrived home. At first Jacob did not believe all that they said when he eventually saw his sons on their return, but once they showed him all that they brought back with them from rich Egypt, he was convinced (verse 27).

That verse tells us that Jacob revived! Interestingly, that word literally means “to re-live”, or to live again, and that is certainly what happened. Jacob got a new lease of life! He would ask one or other of his sons to repeat the story, many times, and he would want to know every detail about Joseph and his family.

Good news always encourages!

Proverbs 13:12 tells us that Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Imagine Jacob finding that he had energy that he hadn’t had for a long time.

Action

Read more of Proverbs 13 today and choose a few verses to think about seriously while relating them to your own life experience.

Think of any time in your life when you have received good news, how did it make you feel? What was your reaction?
