The Life of Joseph – Day 14
Genesis 41:57
And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.
The Thought
In the verses we have not looked at (Genesis 41:44-56), we read that Joseph took very seriously his responsibilities, and was very successful in all he undertook as Pharaoh’s representative. He travelled all over Egypt buying supplies, giving advice, and encouraging everyone to save extra grain for the famine that was threatening the country. The result was that people came long distances from many other countries to buy grain from Joseph. This was God’s plan to reunite Joseph with his family, but it didn’t really begin to unfold until the next chapter.
When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you just keep looking at each other?” He continued, “I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die” (Genesis 42:1-3).
Here we see the beginning of God’s solution to Joseph’s estrangement from his family. Here we see the beginning of the reunion. God’s good longterm plans were beginning to be accomplished.
Action
Read Genesis 41:44-56 that we have NOT looked at in this brief study, and spend some time appreciating what God did for Joseph, and how his life changed. Had he stayed home with his father and brothers working on their land, he would never have been able to do the work he did!
God equipped him for his future long before he knew what his future would be.
Look back on your own life and praise God for all he taught you along the way. The lessons you have learned, and the person you are today.
Give God praise today for what He can do with a life given over to Him.

On Day 14 of this series, the focus is on Genesis 41:57, highlighting Joseph's diligent work as Pharaoh's representative during a severe famine. His effective management led people from various countries to Egypt for grain, fulfilling God's plan to reunite Joseph with his family. Reflect on how God prepares people for their future.
