Live at peace with everyone. In His long farewell speech to His disciples, Jesus told them that He was leaving His peace with them. That is a strange statement. Physical things can be left to others when we die, but how does one leave something non-tangible with anyone else?
Be still! As they try to waken the future Saviour of the world they ask "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"!! What a question to ask the one who came to save the world! But they didn't yet know Him as Saviour, for them He was just a teacher!
The time is coming when people who murder you will think that they are serving God. World history has terrible stories about people being killed for their faith and even christians killing other christians because they disagree on points of theology! Remember that "my peace will be with you" (John 16:33).
Its rider was given the power to make people slaughter one another. We can imagine that many christians thought this was happening during the two world wars of the 20th century. Jesus promises a peace that the world cannot give.
When the lamb opened the second seal, a second horse went out. It was fiery red. Its rider was given power to take peace away and make people slaughter one another. How do the media decide which stories to tell and which to ignore? Who tells them what to say?
His government and peace will have unlimited growth. In part of Jesus' long farewell talk to His disciples He talked about His peace being different to that of the world. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
In our previous thought we suggested that our misdeeds can result in our own ill health, now we see that they can result in someone else's poor health. In Thought 1 we talked about the "one flesh" of marriage. Here we see the effects of being joined with a "bad lot". It is encouraging that the Bible tells the same story all the way through. God never changes, and 'one flesh' means 'one flesh'.
