Suddenly – Day 12

Isaiah 29:5-6

But your many enemies will become like fine dust, the ruthless hordes like blown chaff. Suddenly, in an instant, the Lord Almighty will come with thunder and earthquake, and great noise.

The Thought

The history of Israel as a people, is full of stories about their victory over their enemies. They had much fighting to do, and life was never very peaceful for very long. Or so it seems as we read though the old Testament. As I write this today (early October 2023) Israel are still at war with the Palestinians who live in the Gaza strip and who invaded The Holy Land several days ago. Maybe some of the Jews are claiming this promise from The Lord today.

In many parts of the world Christians are being harassed, or attacked by enemy activity. There are too many evil “suddenlies” from the devilish forces. So this verse is an encouragement for many who need the Lord to come suddenly with a lot of noise to scare off or annihilate those who are fighting for satan and who don’t realise that he is a beaten foe.

The fact is that Jesus overcame satan at the cross. Ever since then that same enemy has been making war against God’s people.

Action

Pray today for the war torn parts of the world, for this verse to become true for those fighting for peace and freedom.

Read Isaiah 29, and feel the anger of the Lord against the enemies of His people, but also the things God says about believers. There are several criticisms of the church there. These people come near to me with their mouths, and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me (Isaiah 29:13).

Pray for those you know who might fit into that category of honouring God with their mouths, but not knowing Him in their hearts!
