Revelation 1-3 – Day 28

Revelation 3:19-20

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

The Thought

One of the most well-known verses from the last book of The Bible tells us that God is an example for every loving parent. He disciplines His children! Often discipline means that we who are parents are looking for an apology from our offspring.

It seems that in the case of the Laodicean church, their guilt was in leaving Jesus out of their lives. They were paying Him lip-service. But they didn’t really know Him, or even want to know Him more. How sad He must feel for those of us who are guilty of that.

The suggestion in the verses above is that eating together helps us get to know each other. And it does. In many cultures of the world people invite new colleagues or neighbours for a snack or a meal, as a gesture of friendship.

The church on earth should be a reflection of Heaven. The Bible tells us much about eating and drinking together. Maybe that is worth a whole study on it’s own!

Action

Read Matthew 25:31-46 today and see what Jesus Himself says about inviting others for meals, and the rewards that await us in Heaven.

Reflect, as you go through your day that your Heavenly Father sees every thing you do, and knows every thought in your mind!

Consider inviting someone to have a drink with you today, whether that is tea, coffee, beer or wine, depends on the culture you are living in. Pray about who to ask, and whether to invite them to your home or to a bar, or cafe. Jesus will be happy to join you in any of those places!
