Psalm 91:7

They will not come near you, even though a thousand may fall dead beside you

Can you imagine all the people in your office or neighbourhood going down with the latest flu strain? Can you imagine what a witness it will be if the Christians are the only ones still standing? I heard a story not long ago about a US army officer in the Iraq war. All the time he was serving out there, not one of his men was killed. That’s the power of faith in the Lord’s protection.

Maybe we can believe it for big things, but have difficulty thinking in those terms for “small” things like coughs and colds. The only way to see breakthrough is to keep trying. So, keep reading about, and speaking out the Lord’s protection until the truth is really embedded in your spirit.

Pray for an encouragement from the Lord in an area where you have been disappointed in the past.

Pray for those you know who are sick.

Praise God for His healing power, and praise Him for a gift of faith.

Psalm 91:7

… or ten thousand at your right side.

When the Bible talks about the “right hand” it often means the “supporting team”. Even those who encourage you may fall, but not you! But as you remain standing through one battle, others around you will be encouraged to fight like you and with you the next time the same thing hits! We are called to be examples to the world.

Are you getting the picture that “it will not come near you”? Can you say with confidence “sickness will not come near me”?

Pray for that confidence today. Whenever you are around people who are sneezing and coughing, pray for your protection as a testimony.

Praise God that He has called you to be a witness for Him, not just by what you say, but by the way you live.

Psalm 91:8

You only have to look with your eyes to see the punishment of wicked people.

This is back to the army situation, and I am in no way suggesting that a colleague who is sneezing near you is “wicked”, but the enemy, who uses sickness to bring us down, is wicked, and one day will be totally destroyed. Until then, we as believers have the capacity to live in the reality of what Jesus did on the cross. (Isaiah 53:4 and 1 Peter 2:24)

Pray for the reality of Jesus bearing our sicknesses to be made new for you and those in your church today.

Praise God for His Word that tells us that Jesus took ALL our sicknesses to the cross.
