Mary’s of the Bible – Day 28
I remember my grandmother criticising certain church-goers she knew saying they were too heavenly minded to be of any earthly use! She, herself, was in church every week, but believed Sunday was the day for a nodding wink to The Lord, and the rest of the week looked after itself!
Mark 16:6-7
Don’t be alarmed, he said, You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
The Thought
How many people do you know of who have been invited by an angel to enter a tomb? This must have been a very rare, probably even unique, occasion! I know of no other!
How many people do you know who have seen angels? I know of several, but have one very good friend who lives alone. She sees many many angels who teach her amazing things. I believe that could be because she takes time to listen and look. Too many of us are too busy with earthly things!
As I write that, I remember my grandmother criticising certain church-going people that she knew saying that they were “too heavenly minded to be of any earthly use”! She herself was in church every week, but she believed Sunday was the day for a nodding wink to The Lord, and the rest of the week looked after itself! But she did say prayers with me at night when I stayed at her house! I can’t imagine what she would think of people conversing with angels!
Here we have Mary not just talking to an angel but being invited into the tomb to see for herself!
Action
Imagine today if someone you loved had died and you heard that they had been resurrected! That happened to many at the moment of Jesus’ death on the cross. At that moment, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split, and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life (Matthew 27:51-52).
Think of the Sadducees, who didn’t believe in the resurrection (Matthew 22:23), when someone they knew who had died, suddenly knocked on their door!!
