James – Day 5

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

The Thought

It sounds as though James is trying to encourage us here. So far he has talked only of trials and tribulations, with only a few encouragements along the way. Most of us, when we look back on life are thankful that God has brought us this far, and helped us through our share of trials and tribulations!

If that is you, do you see the connection between persevering and loving God?

Do you see how God loves you where you are whatever nationality, class or social standing?

Everyone faces problems no matter where, or to whom we were born or what we have done in life up to now. By successfully facing the problems, we show our love for Him. Our trials are part of the purifying and maturing process God has tailor-made for each one of us. We continue and we get through because He loves us and we trust Him and love Him in return. We know it will be worth it in the end!

What do you imagine the “crown of life” looks like? Jesus promises us abundant life (John 10:10), and we can experience it on the earth, although it will be nothing compared with the eternal life and the wonders prepared for us in Heaven. Hallelujah!

Action

Praise the Lord for the rewards waiting for you further down the line. Praise Him for His promises, and the “crown of life” prepared for you.

Imagine yourself wearing a “crown of life” alongside hundreds of others in heaven who have persevered through their earthly trials and made it through.

Pray for perseverance for anyone you know who is in difficulties today.
