Grace – Day 7

John 1:16-17

Out of his fullness we have all received Grace in place of Grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

The Thought

The New Testament authors often refer back to the Old Testament, and nothing Biblical written around or after the time of Christ nullifies what was written before. Jesus often challenged His listeners to remember what Moses said (Matthew 8:4, 19:8, Mark 7:10, Luke 24:44, John 7:19&22).

The world today would do well to remember all of what Moses said as leader of the Israelite nation. He was the one chosen by God to lead His people out of slavery. The “Grace in place of Grace” in today’s verse does not nullify God’s rules for the Israelites. It means more and better!

Sadly in our world in our day, many people are in spiritual slavery, serving the wrong gods. The circumstances of life can be hard and many things are making us “slaves” to world leaders! Only Jesus can rescue us from these things.

Read Exodus 20:1-17 today and make a note in your mind about the ten commandments written so long ago. What do they mean for you today? Think seriously about your life and praise Jesus for the way He is changing you. Ask Him for help in those areas you find difficult.

If you want to know more about God’s rules for life read on through the book of Leviticus.

Ask Jesus to show you if there is idol worship in your life whether it is a literal bowing down to a statue, or whether it is more subtle. Our houses, our jobs, our families or hobbies can all become idols when we think about them and spend more time on them than on the things that are really important in life. Pray for GRACE to get the right balance, and ask Jesus to be Lord of all your life, not just a part of it.
