Christmas – Day 28
Isaiah 9:6-7
A child will be born for us. A son will be given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. He will be named: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and peace will have unlimited growth… The Lord of Armies is determined to do this!
The Thought
A son will be given to us. He will be named: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and peace will have unlimited growth. Mary would have been aware of many of these things said about the child she was bearing. What a responsibility!
Mary, as a devout Jew would have been aware of many of these things said about the child she was bearing. Can you imagine her looking at her baby and wondering how she was to teach Him who already knew everything?
What a responsibility!
It must have been a comfort to her to know that last sentence quoted above. However, the zeal of the Lord was going to do everything, all she had to do was be obedient. It is the same for us today. God still has amazing plans for this world in spite of what we hear and see. He is still zealous for the world to recognise who Jesus was and is. Are you? Am I? He is waiting for us to do what He has told us many times to do:
“Go into all the world and preach the good news” Mark 16:15.
“Go and make disciples…” Matthew 28:19.
Action
Pray today that you will catch some of the Lord’s zeal, and that as this year comes to its close and you reflect on the ups and downs of a very unusual year it won’t be a time of sadness and regret, but a time of determination to know Him better, to do more for Him and with Him.
Praise Father God that He never changes, He is always the same, and His desire is still that none will be lost, but come to the knowledge of His Son. Praise Him for the privilege of spreading that good news.
