Christmas is a time to reflect on the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
I guess that the story is familiar to a lot of us. But it is good to look at it anew. As we do, think about what really happened all those years ago and how it affects our lives today. I pray as you read these studies that you will fall in love afresh with Jesus and His (and our) Father in Heaven.
These thoughts will be published on a daily basis. So please find time to read through them and study the Bible verses.

We would love to hear your feedback. So please feel free to comment in the section with your own thoughts about each verse and how you will be acting on each thought. Also, if you haven’t yet signed up to receive the notifications of new studies, please do that today (the form is at the bottom of the page).

Day 1

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The Thought

Before John begins to tell us anything about Jesus’ earthly life, he makes it absolutely clear that Jesus has always existed. Jesus was there even before Adam and Eve. John also makes it clear that He is God.

Genesis 1:1 begins the whole Bible with “In the beginning God……”

We do not know the actual date of Jesus’ earthly birth, it’s what many now celebrate as Christmas time. However, long before that event, Jesus spent eternity with His Father. He was there at creation. It was with His agreement that Father God created mankind knowing sadly that they would turn from Him and go their own way.

John repeats his conviction at the beginning of his first letter which he opens with

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. (1 John 1:1)

Action

Take some time today to meditate on the fact that Jesus didn’t begin life as a baby. He is and always was everlasting. Just like Father God.

Pray for those you know who think Jesus existed, but just as a man, an exceptional man perhaps, but not God. Let’s pray for their eyes to be opened.

Pray for yourself and others reading this that as we work through this study we will understand more of the eternal aspect of the Godhead.

2 Thoughts on “Christmas – Day 1

  1. One sentence really stood out to me: “It was with His agreement that Father God created mankind knowing sadly that they would turn from Him and go their own way.” It is so moving to know that the God of the universe decided to create us, fully knowing the risk He was taking. To me, this speaks of the profound depth of His love for us, a wayward people. He has given us the choice and took the chance of loving us first. What an amazing gift to be given! May we never take this for granted and allow His love to transform us.

    1. Thank You Andrea, for this encouraging comment.
Yes and Yes. I think the longer I live, the more I understand and appreciate how much God loves me.
May this be a reality for all we know and care for this Christmas time.
      Many blessings
      Anne
