Children of God – Day 9

1 John 3:10

This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God, nor is anyone who does not love their brother or sister.

The Thought

John’s reference here to brother and sister is in a spiritual sense, meaning other believers, but we can also take in in a literal sense. We must learn to love!

Some of the problem is that we all have our own ideas of what is “right”. Unfortunately many sins have been committed in the name of “what is right”.

The Bible tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). We must learn to think the way God thinks. But His thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), so it seems impossible. However, if we act like Jesus and do only what we see the Father doing (John 5:19), then we will do what is right.

Being a child of God is much more a learning process than many of us thought at first. It is not just a certificate given at conversion, or baptism or after a special service in church. But it is something we grow into slowly as we become more like Him. That happens as we spend time in His word, taking it seriously and as we give Him time to speak to us personally, with the listening ears of our heart wide open.

Action

Read 1 John 3:10 today, and pray for more characteristics of the Father God to be part of your life. Pray for spiritual sight to see what the Father is doing and for the boldness to join Him in His work.

Praise God that He is renewing your mind as you allow Him to.

He is renewing His church and bringing revival to His children, let’s Praise Him for that. Praise Him that one day we will be like Him.
