Children of God – Day 14

Satan tempted Jesus to doubt His identity. If the enemy can get us to doubt or forget our true identity, then he can begin to manipulate us. Jesus had just had His identity confirmed at His baptism when God spoke making it clear to all who had ears to hear.

Matthew 4:2-3

After fasting for forty days and forty nights, Jesus was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

The Thought

The biggest word here is “if”. Satan’s plan was to get Jesus to doubt His identity. He does the same to you and me, who are also known to God as sons. If the enemy can get us to doubt or forget our true identity, then he can begin to manipulate us. Jesus had just had His identity confirmed at His baptism when God spoke making it clear to all who had ears to hear. This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:17). Everything that follows in the gospels comes out of Jesus knowing who He was.

All that we do as Christians comes out of how much we understand who we are. In John’s gospel, we read that Jesus said; Truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do what I have been doing, and they will do even greater things, because I am going to The Father” (John 14:12).

Action

Ask yourself today how secure you are as a child of God. Does your security come from your family, your finance, your education, your job? Or does it come from knowing who you are? One of God’s favourite children and through Him you can do all things (Philippians 4:13)!

Pray for the Lord to reveal the false securities in your life, and ask Him to confirm to you that you are His child.

Praise God that He is your Father, and wants to make you feel secure in Him.

Praise Him that through Him you really can do all things. At least all that He is asking you to do.

Pray for protection in keeping to His plan and not your own.
