Children of God – Day 10
Most of us can think of situations where someone has said If you loved me you would…! This is not love, it is manipulation and is birthed of the devil. If we love someone it should be evident in our mannerisms, in our eyes, in our attitudes, in our actions.
1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
The Thought
We looked at an earlier verse from this chapter yesterday. So much of John’s teaching is about love in action, not in words. It seems as though he understood the love of Jesus more than any of the other disciples. John felt the compassion Jesus had for the poor, the sick, the lonely, and all his writings reflect that.
This “beloved apostle” begins this part of his letter by addressing the readers as children, learning from him as an experienced disciple.
We must have the uncomplicated mind of a child in order to learn what the “teacher” is telling us! We must be eager to learn and ready to obey.
Many people find it easy to tell someone that they are loved. Many don’t. It often depends on the culture in which we were brought up. We have all met people who will say they love someone, but don’t show it in their actions.
Most of us can think of situations where someone has said “if you loved me you would…!” This is not love, it is manipulation and is birthed of the devil. If we love someone it should be evident in our mannerisms, in our eyes, in our attitudes, in our actions. Our aim must be to be like God, who so loved you and me that He gave everything He had.
Action
Read the rest of this chapter, (we read verse 10 yesterday), and ask the Lord to show you where you have loved only in word and not in deed.
Pray for more of His love to be realised and to be evident to others through the way you live out your life.
Praise Him for His unending love, and Praise Jesus for demonstrating His love in going all the way for you.
