Angels – Day 5
This is such a nice story and worth reading in its entirety. Abraham was getting old! Remember that he was already old when his son Isaac was born. It was an angelic visitation that had encouraged Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son in their old age.
Genesis 24:40
The Lord, before whom I have walked faithfully, will send His angel with you and make your journey a success.
The Thought
This is such a nice story and worth reading in its entirety.
Abraham was getting old! Remember that he was already old when his son Isaac was born (Genesis 21). It was an angelic visitation that had encouraged Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son in their old age (Genesis 17 & 18).
Now Abraham was looking for a wife for that son, so he sent his servant back to his father’s family to look for a relative to be his daughter in law. This verse is the only one in the chapter that mentions an angel, and nobody saw one, so far as we know.
But obviously the servant gave the credit to an angel for having guided him to exactly the right place and for the amazing timing of Rachel coming out to draw water just as he arrived!
Imagine the angelic activity involved. Rachel could have been doing anything, but she was just there at the right moment.
The timing of God is amazing. But that is what Abraham expected when he assured his servant that God would send His angel on this journey.
Today we tend to talk more about Holy Spirit guidance than about angelic intervention. But both things are organised by our Heavenly Father for our blessing and our protection.
Action
Praise God today for the times God has intervened in your life, when you have recognised it, and when you haven’t.
Pray for more understanding of the spiritual world around you, and the way God is working there.
Read Genesis 24 and be encouraged.
Pray for those you know who are waiting for confirmation of the right marriage partner, that the Lord will guide and protect them.
