Angels – Day 4

Revelation 22:16

I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.

The Thought

Just 5 verses from the end of the whole Bible we read this encouragement to the churches which were mentioned in the early chapters of Revelation, but we can take it for the church today too. Jesus sent His own personal angel to encourage John during his suffering on the Isle of Patmos.

Often Biblical characters who saw visions or met with someone who didn’t seem to be quite “earthly” described the person they saw as “like a son of man”. John used that expression twice in his revelation (Revelation 1:13 & 14:14).

There was obviously something different in the person’s appearance. Was this Jesus’s angel? A being who looked like Him, but was somehow different?

In this verse today Jesus wants John to know that the person he saw at the beginning of his visions was His own personal angel sent to encourage.

Encouragement is one of God’s greatest gifts. He often sends signs along the way to keep us on the right paths for our lives. He never says it will be easy, but He promises that He will be there with us. For example, in Deuteronomy 31:6 we read in Moses’ farewell speech to the Israelites: “The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Jesus, as He was preparing His followers for His departure, promised them the Holy Spirit to lead and guide them into the future (John 16:12).

Jesus told John that His angel had been sent so that John would write the testimony for the churches. That’s you and me today! We are the church.

Action

How sure are you that you have an angelic presence constantly in your life?

Ask yourself today if you see things through the “light of Christ”.

Pray for those you know who need “enlightening”.
