Angels – Day 14

The Burning Bush – I can imagine these flames lit up a huge area, and Moses would wonder why the fire was not spreading to another growth nearby. In fact it was because the flames seemed to be having no effect even on that one bush that Moses went to look!

Exodus 3:2-3

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought “I will go over and see this strange sight – why the bush does not burn up.”

The Thought

Moses was a shepherd looking after his father-in-law’s sheep. (We can see the theme of the shepherd running all the way through the Bible.) The previous verse tells us that in his wanderings with the sheep Moses arrived at Horeb, the mountain of God. Is it a surprise that God would reveal Himself in that place?

I can imagine that these flames lit up a huge area, and Moses would wonder why the fire was not spreading to another growth nearby, but in fact it was because the flames seemed to be having no effect even on that one bush that Moses went to look!

Do you “go and look” if something unusual is happening? Or are you one who would turn away and not want to be involved, just in case it means trouble?

The angel of the Lord was sent by Father God to attract Moses’ attention and that is exactly what he did, but it is interesting that the angel didn’t speak, it was the voice of God that Moses heard. God introduced Himself, making it very clear who He was (v6).

Action

Read on in this chapter and if you are one who highlights Bible verses highlight “I am sending you” (v10) and “I will be with you” (v12) because that is what God is saying to you today.

Pray for obedience as you ask God where it is He wants you to go today. Thank Him for His promise to be with you.
