Hope – Day 26

Psalm 37:9

For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

The Thought

There have been many wars concerning possession of The Holy Land. God gave it to His chosen people thousands of years ago, when He brought them out of Egypt promising them a land of their own. A good and spacious land, flowing with milk and honey (Exodus 3:8). The disputes continue even to this day, and probably will until the Lord returns.

On a personal level this psalm spoke often to me during our early years living in France. We were having a house built. Unfortunately the builder was not the most honest of people, and certainly took advantage of us foreigners who didn’t speak the language very well. That was nearly 40 years ago. We have learned a lot since then. But at that time we were only just beginning to get to know the Lord and His Word. Very quickly we learned how He has something to say about every situation. We were learning to put our hope in Him, and trust, as this verse says, that those who hope in the Lord would inherit the land.

Of course, we forgave the builder and in the end we lived in that house for 30 very happy years. We learned much along the way.

Action

Read psalm 37 today and be encouraged to put whatever you are hoping for into the hands of The Lord.

Pray for the country you live in, for justice to reign and good God-fearing politicians to rule. Only if the Lord is directing our governments can we be sure that the places we live in will be safe for the next generation.

Note the promise of Psalm 37:34.

Hope in the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it.
