Hope – Day 25

Psalms 33:17-19

A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and to keep them alive in famine.

The Thought

This psalm is an accolade to the Lord, telling us that The One who created everything by a word is the only one to trust whatever the circumstances. Most of us know that in our hearts. But still we often trust in other people and things. Our world is one where people have faith in their cars to keep going and take them where they want to go. We hope that there is enough money in our bank accounts to face whatever emergency there might be. We trust our doctors or our medicine chests.

None of these things are wrong. But often our priority is misplaced. When there is a problem our first thought should be a cry of help to God Almighty, who knew the problem before we did. He will inspire us with the right thing to do, and He will guide us through any and all problems if we allow Him to.

The psalmist ends with a declaration that he and his people will trust in the unfailing Lord.

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy Name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you. Psalms 33:20-22

Action

Read Psalm 33 today and be encouraged. Talk to Jesus about anything that is worrying you at the moment.

Reflect on times past when God has been there for you and brought you through other problems, and let that encourage you to keep trusting Him.
