Jude – Day 11

Jude 9

But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

The Thought

This is a continuation of yesterday’s verse which talked about “ungodly people” who ‘heap abuse on celestial beings”. It is a strange verse referring to things that are not included elsewhere in our Bibles. We have no information about the burial of Moses, except that The Lord Himself performed the burial. And Moses, the servant of The Lord died there in Moab, as The Lord had said. He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no-one knows where his grave is. (Deuteronomy 34:5-7).

There are many more books written about the history of God’s people that are not included in our Bibles. The Dead Sea scrolls contain much of our scriptures, but also other writings such as the book of Enoch, which was not accepted into the “canon of scripture”.

Jude described in yesterday’s verse people who pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings. I can’t say much about that because it is outside my scope of experience. Thankfully I have never been in a church with such extreme members, but I have been in churches where some people have their own agenda and constantly criticise the leaders. I am aware too that before I criticise anyone else I must remember Matthew 7:3:- Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye, and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Action

Think about your own critical spirit. I hope you don’t have one, but sadly most of us do! What irritates you about others?

We must lift the “difficult ones” (and every church has them) to the Lord in prayer. Spend time doing that today, asking the Lord to help you love those people.
