7 Seals – Day 10
Revelation 6:4
Its rider was given the power to take peace away from the earth and to make people slaughter one another.
The Thought
Its rider was given the power to make people slaughter one another. We can imagine that many christians thought this was happening during the two world wars of the 20th century. Jesus promises a peace that the world cannot give.
This rider has definitely been riding all over the world for hundreds of years. When was there ever worldwide peace? But the suggestion is that there will be more wars. We can imagine that many christians thought this was happening during the two world wars of the 20th century.
Maybe the word “peace” for you means a personal inner peace in your home life and working environment that allows you to go through life without too many problems? Maybe it is both; the absence of war and the absence of personal stress.
In John 14:27 Jesus promises His disciples an inner peace that the world cannot give. He didn’t warn them, at least at that moment, that they would be arrested, imprisoned, and maybe killed for having faith in Him. He goes on to tell us all to not let our hearts be troubled! Is it hard for you to “not let your heart be troubled”?
Can you imagine a world with no wars?
How about a family with no arguments?
Or an office where everyone agreed all the time about decisions to be made and future plans?
Action
Read more of John 14 today and be encouraged by Jesus’ last message to His disciples before His crucifixion. He was the only one in the group who knew what was going to happen, that He was about to be arrested and put through excruciating physical pain and yet He was teaching them about inner peace!
Remember that focusing on Jesus and not the chaos around us is the only way to REAL peace. Ask Him for that encouragement today as you focus more on Him.
