Habakkuk – Day 19

He is telling us that the things we do for our own personal gain, (the misuse of power or position,) will be unprofitable, and end up as fuel for His fire. These things will be worthless, and serve no purpose in the final judgement. What a patient Lord we serve!

Habakkuk 2:13-14

Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

The Thought

This is a continuation of The Lord’s answer to Habakkuk’s complaint in the 3rd “woe”, which concerned those who build their own world at the expense of others less fortunate than themselves. Those who take advantage of their situations, who use “slave labour” by not pay!ng fair wages, and building their own empires.

He is telling us that the things we do for our own personal gain, (the misuse of power or position,) will be unprofitable, and end up as fuel for His fire. These things will be worthless, and serve no purpose in the final judgement after which everyone who has not recognised and glorified God will be burned in the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15).

In Peter’s second letter, he confirms to us that God’s heart is still to have us all in Heaven with Him. In 2 Peter 3:9 we read The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

What an amazingly patient Lord we serve!

Action

Spend some time today imagining the earth filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. (Habakkuk 2:14). That’s what Heaven will be like!

Read 2 Peter 3 (the last words of this apostle) and feel Peter’s passion and purpose in writing to his friends (v17). All who love the Lord would be considered by Peter as “friends”.

Meditate today on the very last verse. Pray that you will grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour (2 Peter 3:18).
