Habakkuk – Day 14

Habakkuk 2:6

Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying, “Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! How long must this go on?”

The Thought

This verse is a continuation of God’s tirade against the enemy which takes up most of this second chapter of Habakkuk’s short book. On day 12 of this study we read See the enemy is puffed up. (Habakkuk 2:4). A more traditional translation of that verse says: Behold the proud! God has much to say about pride and the proud. The people He is talking of at the beginning of our verse today are those who have recognised the greed and the pride of the enemy. They are declaring a curse on the guilty ones.

Eve, in the garden of Eden, thought she could decide for herself what was and was not good for her. She acted according to her own pride. Of course, she was influenced by the enemy, satan in the guise of the snake.

Sadly most of mankind has fallen into the same trap of thinking that we know better than God what is good for us and what isn’t. We have suffered the results of not going God’s way.

Action

Read or listen to some of the world news items today and ask the Lord if any of the names you hear fit into this category. Sadly there are many who are making themselves wealthy by extortion. Pray for the Lord to reveal Himself to the greedy of our day, whether they are greedy for finance or fame.

Pray for revival among the youth of today. Let’s pray they will be led by The Lord and not fall into the world’s system of always wanting more.

Confess any times that you might have fallen into that trap.
