Hope – Day 1

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares The Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

The Thought

As we begin a new month and a new year it seems appropriate to look at an encouraging subject! Hope. We all must be hoping that this new year will be better than the last few have been. We are all hoping for no more lockdowns, no more covid, and we are praying that we can get on with “normal” life. That was what the Israelites were hoping for when they were in captivity in Babylon. “Normal life to be resumed”!

And that is what God promised them. It is also what He promises for each of us who love Him and follow Him faithfully.

During the frustrations of the last few years God has been working out His purposes, and many have found salvation in Jesus during that time. Earlier in Jeremiah, we read that the anger of the Lord will not turn back until He fully accomplishes the purposes of His heart. That is encouraging, and it finishes with a promise that we will understand one day what He has been doing. In days to come you will understand it clearly (Jeremiah 23:20).

Action

Ask yourself today what your hopes are for the future. We all have them, no matter how old we are. We have hopes for ourselves, and our families. There are also hopes for our communities to be well run and efficient. We have wider hopes for our local and national governments, that they will make wise decisions.

Pray on this new day of a new month and a new year, that God’s plans will be fulfilled in your personal life, in your local government and your national government. Thank Him for His good plans and look forward with determination and hope.
