Grace – Day 4

Zechariah 12:10

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of Grace and supplication .They will look on Me, the One they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

The Thought

What is the “Spirit of Grace and Supplication” to be poured out on the people of Jerusalem that Zechariah is hearing about here? The verses following are obviously a prophecy about Jesus, “The One they have pierced”. So we can suppose that Jesus represents the personification of that Spirit of Grace and supplication.

There is one moment in His life that seems to me to demonstrate both “grace” and “supplication” in Jesus. He was in the garden of Gethsemane, pleading with His Father to not have to die the painful death that He knew was prepared for Him.

The Spirit of Supplication named in this verse sometimes translates as the Spirit of prayer or pleading. This Spirit was asking for a different way out. But the Spirit of Grace helped Jesus be obedient to the Father’s will.

Before Jesus returns, this Spirit of Grace and Supplication will be given to the people of Jerusalem as the Jewish nation recognises how wrong they were. Many Jews are already realising this and there are growing numbers of Messianic Jewish communities in many parts of the world today.

That Spirit of Grace is moving. Hallelujah!

Action

Pray today for that spirit of Grace and Supplication to visit all the unbelievers that you pray for. That each one would recognise “The One” who was pierced for them.

Pray too for the Jewish community across the world. For those who don’t yet know Jesus and who are waiting for the Messiah to come.

Praise God that He will come soon and All will know the truth.
