Mysteries and Secrets – Day 26

Daniel 4:9

I said, “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Here is my dream; interpret it for me”.

The Thought

Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon was writing a letter to be read to all people of every language, who live in all the earth (v1). That is the enthusiasm of someone who has recognised the miraculous power of our Sovereign Lord. God had humbled him in a drastic way, and eventually re-instated him as king.

After Daniel’s amazing success with the king’s first disturbing dream, (days 2-4 of this study) Nebuchadnezzar called on him again, full of confidence that The One he had renamed Belteshazzar could interpret the dream.

In the following verses, we read how the king related his mysterious dream to his servant who received the meaning from The Lord. The revelation of this strange dream meant that Daniel was afraid and didn’t want to tell the king the interpretation. We are not told of the king’s reaction, just that it came true.

The first part of what he had seen was encouraging, showing the king that God saw him and had blessed him (v20-22), but after the encouragement came the bad news and Nebuchadnezzar behaved like an animal for a long time! It all sounds very strange, but it happened!

Nebuchadnezzar told everyone who read or heard the words of his letter that the God of Heaven went on to fulfil the strange things that had been prophesied, he was convinced that Daniel’s god reigned supreme. And He does! Hallelujah!

Action

Read Daniel 4 today remembering that it is the king himself who wrote this letter, having been convinced that our God is the greatest.

Pray today for God-given dreams for those in authority in your country.
