Grace – Day 5

John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and only Son, who came from the Father, full of Grace and truth.

The Thought

In today’s verse we have John’s testimony that the Grace Jesus carried as a child never left Him. It was a “like Father like Son” situation. Jesus showed us the qualities of Father God and encouraged each of His followers to live in a God pleasing way.

Reading about the qualities that Jesus carried should not be a mental exercise. It should lead us to practice what He preached. He wants us to literally follow His example. Jesus came to show us how to live practically on this earth. How to depend on The Father for everything! For inspiration, instruction, and help in the difficult moments of the day.

Jesus told His followers that very little of what He did came from Himself, He could only do what He saw His Father doing. In fact in a conversation with His disciples Jesus assured Philip that He didn’t do anything of Himself. It was the Father living in Him that was doing the work (John 14:10). Just before that verse we can feel Jesus disappointment as he says to Philip. “Don’t you know Me, even after I have been with you such a long time?”

Would Jesus say that to you today? Sadly there are many who have attended church all their lives, but still don’t really know Him.

Action

Pray for churchgoers who don’t really know Jesus today, for Holy Spirit to reveal Him to each one.

John 14 is a very rich chapter, read through it slowly and allow yourself to be challenged by Jesus’ words to His disciples.

Ask yourself if you are developing the qualities inherited from your Heavenly Father.
