Mysteries and Secrets – Day 23

Revelation 1:20

The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

The Thought

One of the mysteries that we probably will not understand until we get to Heaven, is why God likes the number 7 so much! The Bible is full of sevens. I have heard people say that 7 is the “perfect number”, but why? What does that mean? Only God knows!

Way back at the beginning of time, He made a week of 7 days, then one generation later Cain killed his brother Abel and God forgave him saying that no-one was to harm Cain, if they did they would suffer vengeance 7 times over (Genesis 4:15). What did that mean? And why? Often studying God’s word leaves us with more questions than answers!

Much later in the history of our world there was the flood, and most of us believe that Noah took into the ark pairs of all the creatures living on the earth at that time, but no!! There were 7 pairs of all the clean animals and all the birds (Genesis 7:2-3)! and God gave Noah just 7 days to get them all in the ark (Genesis 7:4)!

It’s fascinating!

According to my concordance, the number 7 features 518 times in most Bibles, some of those are the word “seventy” (69 times), or “seventeen”(14), but still there are a lot of sevens in our Bibles.

The very last mention of 7 is in Revelation 15:7 where it appears twice! Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God who lives forever and ever.

Action

Read some of the verses mentioned today, and think about all the things you do every 7 days, just because God decided that’s how long a week should be!

Praise God that He created everything mathematical and scientific, and pray for people who work with numbers today to recognise God in the sequences they find.
